Wardrobe at The Cross

About Us

Proud to be a Neston Independent

Neston is a very important place to Hil & Sue. Hil lived in Little Neston for many years — West Vale to be precise — and Sue lives very nearby in Willaston. They decided to create Wardrobe at The Cross in the heart of Neston — as close to the much‑famed Cross as possible — because the town holds such a special place in their hearts.

Many evenings have been spent having catch‑ups in The Harp, and many days have been spent with Hil’s children and Sue’s dogs walking along Parkgate front with dripping ice creams and scooters. Neston is a town that deserves the very best and it’s starting to return — a slew of new independents take pride of place on the high street, jostling for space amongst some of the larger chains — and that’s good. For now.

Hil & Sue want to support the revival of independent retail that is happening countrywide and in Neston itself. It is so very critical to the way we live our lives. After all, we are “a nation of shopkeepers”, as the phrase often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte (via French revolutionary Bertrand Barère) reminds us.

Fans of Ethical Fashion Brands

Hil and Sue are both vehemently opposed to fast fashion and all the catwalk nonsense. None of this ‘latest thing’ pressure — just timeless pieces that help you feel like your best self.

Their philosophy is simple: wear something amazing and you’ll feel amazing. Choose a colour that flatters you, a shape that makes you feel brilliant every day — and enjoy it.

Both Hil and Sue are trained personal stylists, and Sue offers a full suite of styling services right here at Wardrobe at The Cross — including full wardrobe edits in the comfort of your own home.

We also try to support local businesses and female-led brands wherever we can. That means you’ll find accessories crafted by local female makers alongside a curated collection of fashion from independent, woman-owned labels.

Your local ladies’ Boutique

Welcome to Wardrobe at The Cross — your colourful corner of Neston where independent fashion, brilliant styling, and a warm welcome come as standard.

We’re Hil and Sue, and we believe getting dressed should feel joyful, not stressful. Our shop at 25A Neston High Street is packed with beautiful, wearable pieces you won’t find everywhere else — including sustainable brands, one-off finds and the best denim known to (wo)man. Online or in person, we’re here to help you feel like you, just even better dressed.

Meet Hil

Hil loves fashion. End of. She studied English and French Literature at Leeds, speaks French fluently (oui, vraiment), and holds a master’s in Retail Marketing — though she’ll be the first to tell you that most of her wisdom comes from real-life experience in fashion and digital marketing.

You’ll spot Hil all over our social media, usually mid-pose or mid-rant. She’s not remotely shy about making a wally of herself if it helps show you how to wear something — or how to style it for real life’s big (and small) moments.

Expect updates on what’s in, what’s coming, and what she’s had for lunch. Sustainability, local shopping, brands she’s obsessed with… and cheese. Always cheese.

She’s also mum to two brilliant girls, servant to two cats, and married to the ever-patient Graham.

Meet Sue

Sue brings a rare blend of style and substance to Wardrobe at The Cross. With a degree in Food Science and a top-tier styling qualification from the London College of Fashion, she’s as clued-up on hormones and wellbeing as she is on body shapes and capsule wardrobes.

Her one-to-one styling sessions are a game-changer for women who want to dress with confidence and ease — whether you're in the middle of a life shift or just need a fresh perspective. Thoughtful, practical, and never pushy, Sue has a gift for helping you feel at home in your clothes.

When she’s not in the shop, she’s often spotted striding along the Wirral Way with her dog Reggie, or raising an eyebrow at Hil’s Diet Coke obsession. They bicker like sisters, but Sue and Hil are firm friends — and the heart of what makes Wardrobe at The Cross so special.
