This is the dress that earns its place in every summer wardrobe. The Juli Suzani Embroidered Kaftan Dress from Maison de Belle is a proper statement piece — crisp blue and white striped cotton, richly detailed suzani hand embroidery in deep red, black and blush pink running across the front, the sleeves and the hem, a soft V-neckline with a centre-front split, and the kind of relaxed midi cut that floats around the body rather than fighting it. Bohemian and effortlessly elegant in equal measure — the kind of dress you'd happily wear to a long lunch, a beach lounger, or a holiday dinner under the stars.

Because the suzani embroidery is properly handcrafted, no two pieces are quite the same — a small, beautiful imperfection runs through every one. And yes — it has pockets. Praise be.

Hand wash separately in cold water for the first wash, then you can move to a gentle cold cycle in the machine. Line dry rather than tumble. Iron on a cool-to-warm setting if needed (the embroidery can take a low iron, but check first). Kindness in the wash extends the life of the embroidery enormously.

How to Measure Yourself Correctly

Achieve the perfect fit by following these simple measurement steps:

Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape measure horizontal.
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, just above your navel.
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, with your feed together.

Ensure the tape measure is snug, but not tight, and parallel to the floor.

Hil (UK 10/12 normally, takes the M here, 5'3", 34EE): the V-neckline works beautifully for her bust, the relaxed cut skims her tummy, and at 5'3" the midi length lands at about ankle — with flat sandals it almost reads as floor-length, which is properly elegant.
Sue (UK 6 normally, takes the S here, 5'0"): the relaxed cut suits her petite frame, and at 5'0" the midi length hits low on the calf rather than the ankle — still flattering, still floats.
General note: 100% cotton has no stretch but a gorgeous drape, and only softens with wear. If you are between sizes, the relaxed kaftan cut is forgiving — size down if you want it cleaner, size up if you want it more floaty.

A midi kaftan that does the work of three pieces — beach cover-up, day dress, evening dress — in one. The embroidery is genuinely beautiful (look closely, it really is hand-done), the cotton is breathable enough for proper heat, and for a hand-embroidered dress from a properly ethical brand at this price, it is an outright steal. We have yet to put it on anyone who didn't immediately want to take it home.

Hil (UK M, 5'3"): wears it with tan leather flat sandals, gold hoops, a stack of gold bangles, and her hair off her neck. Long lunch, beach club, or holiday dinner — it just works. Bare-legged in proper heat, with a denim jacket draped over the shoulders if there's a breeze.
Sue (UK S, 5'0"): wears it with chunky leather sandals, layered fine gold chains, and her hair loose. She'd switch to gold strappy sandals for evening and add a denim jacket over the shoulders for cool nights. The relaxed cut suits her boho lean perfectly.
