Of the four Dean colourways, this is the one that works hardest and travels furthest: from a summer garden to an autumn evening without missing a beat.

The wide leg is generous and the cotton moves well. Wear it high and tucked in with a simple black cami for an effortlessly chic look, or low on the hips with a relaxed linen shirt for something altogether more easy. Either way, you'll be reaching for these on repeat.

Achieve the perfect fit by following these simple measurement steps:

  • Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape measure horizontal.
  • Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, just above your navel.
  • Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, with your feed together.

Ensure the tape measure is snug, but not tight, and parallel to the floor.

One size. Hil (5ft 3, UK 10/12) pulls hers up to her natural waist and ties the drawstring neatly — this gives beautiful definition and the wide leg falls perfectly. Sue (5ft, UK 6) wears hers sitting lower on the hips; at that position they're long on her and she does a small turn-up at the ankle, which looks completely intentional. If you're petite and planning to wear them at the hip, just bear that in mind.
Why We Love It

The black stripe is the Dean for people who think they don't do colour — except of course black and white is one of the most striking combinations there is. It dresses up more easily than the other colourways, goes with absolutely everything, and has a Breton-stripe energy that never goes out of fashion. The smocked drawstring waist means it works across a real range of shapes and sizes, and these will take you through summer, autumn and well into winter.
Styling Suggestions

Hil tucks in a black silk cami or a fine black knit and ties the drawstring neatly — it's an evening look with almost no effort involved. She also loves them with a simple white or cream top for a fresh take on the classic combination. Tan sandals or simple heels. Sue wears hers lower on the hips with a black or white linen shirt worn open, and does a small turn-up at the ankle. Come autumn and winter, both layer these with a chunky oatmeal knit or a fine roll-neck and a long black or camel coat; the stripe sits beautifully against almost any palette.
