Description

A one-hour private appointment with Sue, in our shop in Neston, CH64, on the borders of Wirral and Cheshire.

Let's get one thing straight before we start: this is not a session where anyone tells you to lose weight. We will never, ever do that. This session is for you if you've noticed your body changing during the menopause and feel that your hormones have taken the wheel. Maybe the scales are creeping up no matter what you do, and how you feel about your body has started to affect how you feel about yourself. That can become a horribly downward spiral, and it's that spiral we want to help you understand and step out of.

Why Sue?

Sue isn't just our stylist and colour analyst. She also has a degree in Food Science from Leeds University, and she's kept up to date with her subject ever since. She's fascinated by the science of how our bodies work, and she explains it in plain English, with none of the jargon.

What happens to your body in the menopause

It isn't your imagination, and it isn't a lack of willpower. As oestrogen falls, your body changes the way it works:

  • It tends to store more fat around your middle rather than on your hips and thighs.
  • It becomes less responsive to insulin, which encourages that tummy fat to settle in.
  • You naturally lose muscle as you age, and less muscle means your body burns less energy at rest.
  • Two hormones called leptin and ghrelin, which tell you when you're full and when you're hungry, can shift. Broken sleep and night sweats make this worse, so you can feel hungrier than you used to.
  • Your gut health changes too, and your gut plays a bigger part in how your body handles hormones than most of us realise.

What you'll talk about

Sue will help you understand what's happening in your own body, and what's actually within your control. That includes the role of gut health, and the idea of giving your gut a gentle rest between meals so it has time to reset. That doesn't mean painful fasting or anything extreme. It's about understanding your body and working with it, not punishing it.

You might not look at a single item of clothing in this session, and that's absolutely fine. It's about understanding your changing body first. Feeling better about yourself usually follows.

Please note: this is not medical advice

Sue will share her knowledge and experience, but this session must not be considered medical advice. If you have a health condition, take medication, or are thinking about HRT, please talk to your GP.

Booking

Simply buy your session here, and we'll be in touch to arrange a time. We hold these appointments on Mondays, when the shop is closed, so we sometimes work to quite a long lead time. It's well worth booking early.
