The Judd is the barrel jean that works for real life. Mid Blue Denim — the wash that goes with everything — at a higher rise than the Zack, generous through the thigh and tapered below the knee. If you love the barrel shape but found the Zack's rise a little lower than you'd like, this is your answer.

The fabric blend is different from the Zack: 62% Cotton, 4% Viscose, 33% Polyester, 1% Elastane. The viscose brings a beautiful drape and softness to the denim, the elastane moves with you all day, and the whole thing wears with a warmth and ease that makes you want to reach for them again.

One thing Hil wants you to know: she carries her weight on her tummy, and the barrel silhouette doesn't cling or pull across the middle. It skims past. The leg shape does the talking. If you've been avoiding jeans for that reason, the barrel might be exactly the shape you've been waiting for.

A note before you order: the Judd comes up generously. Size down from your usual. Hil is a 10 — she wears a Small in these.

How to Measure Yourself Correctly

Achieve the perfect fit by following these simple measurement steps:

Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape measure horizontal.
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, just above your navel.
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, with your feed together.

Ensure the tape measure is snug, but not tight, and parallel to the floor.

The Judd comes up generously — we recommend sizing down. Hil (usually a 10 in the shop) wears a Small. As a guide: XS fits a 6–8, Small a 10–12, Medium a 12–14, Large a 14–16. The barrel silhouette is most flattering with some curve through the hip and thigh — if you're particularly petite, the shape can feel voluminous for your frame.

Mid Blue Denim in a barrel silhouette. It sounds obvious until you try it — and then you wonder why you waited. The colour goes with every knit, every blouse, every jacket in the shop. The barrel shape is generous through the thigh (where most of us need a little room), tapers beautifully below the knee, and the higher rise than the Zack means there's real hold at the waist. Hil carries her weight on her tummy and finds the barrel particularly kind: it skims where other jeans cling. The stretch-viscose blend makes these comfortable from first wear to last. If barrel jeans have been on your mind, the Judd in Mid Blue is the place to start.

Hil wears her Judd Barrel Jean with the Bowbridge Poppy Blouse tucked in and her Moda Snuffle Belt in Oak with gold hardware. The high rise and the belt together create a defined waist, the blouse tucks in neatly, and the barrel shape does the rest. She's in a Small — she's a 10 in the shop, but the Judd comes up generously, so she sized down.

Sue, at 5 foot and genuinely petite, finds the barrel silhouette a bit more volume than she's ready for — when you're small, all that generosity through the thigh can feel like too much of a good thing. But don't count her out just yet. Converting Sue to a barrel jean is very much Hil's project this season. Watch this space.
