Description

The Hester is one of those tops that works on almost everyone — which, if you’ve spent any time shopping, you’ll know is a rarer thing than it sounds. A loose, breathable linen body with a wide boat neck and short sleeves, and then at the hem: an elasticated band that gathers the fabric into a waterfall dip at the back, skimming elegantly over everything you’d rather it skimmed over. The dipped hem is the whole design — it’s doing a lot of very flattering work while appearing to do nothing at all.

The white is a clean, bright white that feels genuinely fresh — brilliant with jeans, linen trousers, or (as the photos on our site rather boldly suggest) a pair of textured black trousers for something altogether more unexpected. A white linen top is a wardrobe perennial for very good reason and this one does the job particularly well.

Linen will crease. That’s the deal — and it’s also the point. The Hester is supposed to look relaxed. Wear it, wash it, wear it again. It softens beautifully with every wash and never needs to look perfectly pressed, because that is absolutely not the brief.

Care Instructions

Machine washable on a gentle cycle. Linen doesn’t stretch but softens with every wash and will look better and better over time. Do not attempt to iron it flat — that’s not what this top is for.

How to Measure Yourself Correctly

Achieve the perfect fit by following these simple measurement steps:

  • Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape measure horizontal.
  • Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, just above your navel.
  • Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, with your feed together.

Ensure the tape measure is snug, but not tight, and parallel to the floor.

The Hester runs generously. Hil is 5’3” and a UK 10/12 and takes a Small or Medium — Small for a cleaner line, Medium for a more generous hem cascade.

One honest note: the Hester doesn’t come in an XS. If you’re very petite — a UK 4 or 6 — the Small will be more than oversized. The proportions are genuinely designed with a UK 8 upwards in mind, and we’d rather tell you than not. Sue has registered her feelings about this and we have duly noted them.
Why We Love It

We put this on Hil and it did exactly what the best clothes do — it made her look immediately put-together without her having to do anything in particular. The waterfall hem at the back is the secret: it skims over the tummy and falls so beautifully that people will assume you’ve spent considerably more money than you have. White linen is a classic and the Hester is a particularly good version of it.
Styling Suggestions

Hil wears hers with high-waisted straight-leg jeans for every day, and with wide-leg linen trousers in a neutral for something slightly more polished. The white works brilliantly with a bold red or coral lip and statement gold earrings — very much Hil’s register. Sue is sitting this one out — the Small is simply too big for her frame and there’s no XS — but she has registered her interest very clearly should that ever change.
