Description

The Edie is the blouse your eye goes to first and then can't leave. In Butter — a warm, soft pale yellow that sits beautifully against skin in every season — it's scattered all over with the most extraordinary folk-art embroidery: elaborate baroque hearts in deep magenta and pink with intricate layered detailing, alternating with small floral clusters in terracotta and dusty blue. The motifs are not uniform or mechanical — they have that slightly irregular quality of genuinely handcrafted work.

The details are just as considered as the embroidery itself. A decorative wavy ric-rac trim runs the length of the button placket — in warm terracotta, picking up the tones in the embroidery exactly — with pearlescent dome buttons. A gathered ruffle at the shoulder seam. Full, voluminous bishop sleeves in the same butter cotton, gathering to neat elasticated cuffs at the wrist.

100% cotton, which means it's surprisingly easy to care for given how extraordinary it looks. Machine washable, breathable, and with none of the fragility you might expect from something this beautiful.

Emily Lovelock makes in limited runs for independent boutiques only. This print — these specific hearts, this exact ric-rac, these buttons — exists nowhere else. When it sells, it's gone.

Care Instructions

Machine wash at 30°, gentle cycle. Do not tumble dry. Iron on a medium heat — cotton benefits from a warm iron, though a light press is all it needs. Turn inside out to protect the embroidery.

Size Guide

Emily Lovelock runs XS to L in the Edie. Hil is a UK 10/12 and is in a Small — though she notes a Medium works beautifully on days when you want more ease through the body. Sue is a UK 6 and is in the XS.

The Edie has a relaxed fit that isn't close to the body through the bust or waist, which makes it forgiving and comfortable across sizes. If you're fuller-busted or like a little more room, consider going up one size.

Why We Love It

Because the embroidery is genuinely extraordinary — the kind of intricate, detailed folk-craft work that has a completely different quality from anything printed or mass-produced. Each heart motif is its own small artwork. And because it's 100% cotton, it's easier to care for than it has any right to be. Emily Lovelock designs exclusively for independent boutiques in small runs, and this print — these specific hearts, this ric-rac, these buttons — exists nowhere else. When it sells, it's gone.

Styling Suggestions

Hil wears a Small tucked into high-waisted wide-leg jeans or tailored trousers — the relaxed body tucks beautifully, the bishop sleeve is the statement, and the butter yellow is the most flattering base for the rest of her wardrobe. For an evening out she'd tuck into a dark midi skirt and let the embroidery do everything. Sue wears her XS buttoned and loose over her Keira jeans from Toxik with stacked boots — the folk-art embroidery and generous bishop sleeve working as the most brilliant relaxed layer. Into autumn, both agree: the Edie is extraordinary under a chocolate or camel coat, the embroidery peeking out at the collar and the butter yellow warming the whole look.
