Toxik do it again with the Barrel Crop Jean in Burgundy, a proper statement colour in a shape that's having a moment everywhere. The barrel leg curves out gently through the thigh and tapers back in at the ankle, with a cropped length that's made for showing off a good trainer or boot. High-waisted, with the curved front seaming and statement patch pockets Toxik are known for, this is denim with real personality.

The stretch is exactly what you'd expect from Toxik: properly generous, just as good as any of our other styles. Where this one differs is the rise, which sits a touch lower than usual, so if you're naturally high-waisted, you may find you need to size up to get the right depth through the gusset.

How to Measure Yourself Correctly

Achieve the perfect fit by following these simple measurement steps:

Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape measure horizontal.
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, just above your navel.
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, with your feed together.

Ensure the tape measure is snug, but not tight, and parallel to the floor.

Hil is 5’3” and a standard UK 10/12. She normally takes a 38 (UK 10) in Toxik, but needs the 40 (UK 12) in these. It's nothing to do with the stretch, which is identical — it's that lower rise meeting her high waist, so she needs the extra depth through the gusset to sit comfortably.

Sue is 5’0” and a standard UK 6. She's true to size in the 34, which the brand would call a 6 but sits more like a 7 — somewhere between a UK 6 and 8.

So: if you're naturally high-waisted like Hil, we'd suggest sizing up. If your waist sits lower, true to size should work just as well as it does for Sue.

Burgundy is one of those colours that looks expensive and feels completely wearable — not try-hard, just good. The barrel crop shape is a brilliant way to update your denim without going full wide-leg, and the high waist and curved seaming do genuinely flattering things for pretty much every shape that walks through our door.

It's a proper statement jean that still goes with almost everything in your wardrobe — trainers, boots, a simple tee, a blazer. Job done.

Hil’s Look – Polished and Pulled Together: Hil would wear hers with a crisp white shirt tucked in, gold jewellery, and either trainers for daytime or a heeled boot to dress it up for evening. She'd belt it at her natural waist to make the most of that high rise.

Sue’s Look – Easy and Layered: Sue would keep hers relaxed with a fitted top tucked in, a couple of thin layers on top, and her favourite chunky trainers. Hair down, as always, letting the burgundy do the talking.
