The Avan Jacket from b.young in Fig is proper investment outerwear for those of us who live somewhere it actually rains — in other words, all of us in the North West. A hooded rain jacket in the most beautiful deep Fig wine-purple, with a matte water-resistant finish that means the weather can genuinely get on with itself while you carry on with your day.

Fig is the shade of the season. Deep, rich, wine-purple — properly grown-up, deeply autumnal, and considerably more considered than a plain black or navy raincoat. It plays with cream, denim, camel, chocolate, olive, black and every autumnal shade in your capsule.

The design is clean Scandi rain-jacket done properly: drawstring hood, zip-front with a snap-fastening storm placket over the top (that extra layer stops the water finding the zip), two front patch pockets for hands and phone and dog treats, matte rubberised finish throughout.

Made from 100% polyester with a showerproof / water-resistant coating — which for a rain jacket is exactly the right fabric for the job. This isn't a piece where we're wishing it was made of something else; the polyester coating is the engineering that keeps you dry.

One honest note: this isn't a jacket that's going to give you huge warmth on its own. It's a rain jacket, not a winter coat. Layer a knit or fleece underneath in colder months. What it WILL do — brilliantly — is keep you dry.
