Description

Block-printed cotton at its most romantic. The Anna is a proper hand-printed dress — a delicate blue lotus motif scattered across crisp white cotton, with a square neckline that sits beautifully on the collarbones, full balloon sleeves, and a tiered skirt that swishes when you walk. The waist is fitted, the skirt is generous, and the whole effect is somewhere between Provençal courtyard and English garden tea.

Block-printed by hand in India for Maison de Belle, who pair London design sensibilities with Indian craft heritage and fair wages for the artisans who make each piece. There's no occasion this dress doesn't quietly answer for — wedding guest, holiday dinner, school run if you fancy it. The block print catches the light in a way machine prints simply cannot, and once you've worn one hand-printed cotton dress you start eyeing all the others with intent.

Features
  • Silhouette: Fitted bodice with seamed waist, full tiered midi skirt.
  • Neckline: Square neck — sits on the collarbones, accommodates a regular bra.
  • Sleeve: Long balloon sleeve with elasticated, ruffled cuff.
  • Print: Hand-blocked blue lotus motif on a crisp white ground.
  • Fabric: Cotton, block-printed by hand by artisans in India.
  • Brand origin: Maison de Belle — London design house, pieces made in India.
  • Sustainability: Small-scale production, fair wages, organic and natural fibres.

Size Guide
  • Hil's pick: At 5'3" and a UK 10/12, Hil would wear the M. The square neck works happily with a regular bra (her 34EE doesn't fight it), the seamed waist sits at her true waist so no belting needed, and the full skirt skims rather than clings — exactly what she wants when her tummy is having opinions.
  • Sue's pick: At 5'0" and a UK 6, Sue would wear the S. The fitted bodice gives her petite frame structure where it needs it, and the midi reads almost ankle-grazing on her — a happy accident.
  • Fabric note: Cotton doesn't stretch, so size with the bust measurement in mind. It softens beautifully after the first wash and, like all hand-blocked cottons, ages into something lovelier with wear.
Why We Love It

There is no occasion this dress doesn't quietly work for. Wedding-guest done well. Holiday dinner without the fuss. School run if you fancy it. The block print catches the light in a way machine prints simply cannot — and once you've worn one hand-printed cotton dress you start eyeing all the others with intent.

Styling Suggestions
  • Hil (UK 10/12): Flat tan sandals, a wide-brimmed straw, gold hoops, and the sleeves pushed up to her elbows when the kitchen calls. In autumn, a chunky cardigan over the top with ankle boots — the dress doesn't mind being layered.
  • Sue (UK 6): Full holiday — stacked silver bangles, a vest underneath if the bodice runs cool, espadrilles, and a basket bag big enough to hide a paperback in. She might also belt at the waist seam to nip it in further.
