There are moments in boutique life when you know almost instantly that something has “got legs”. Sorry, Hil writing this blog and I am prone to some awful word play. You’ll have to get used to it. It doesn’t stop. Sue blocks it out these days….
Anyway.
Sue and I have been buying fashion long enough to know when women are politely interested in something and when women are one accidental Instagram Reel away from wrestling each other to the floor over the last size 12.
The TOXIK3 2662 arrived quietly. No fanfare. No giant marketing campaign. We are a small, family owned business with modest budgets. Hence no influencer hanging upside down on TikTok shouting about “must have denim”.
Just a really fabulous pair of Parisian jeans with large front patch pockets and a very flattering backside situation. Think Peach. Speaking as a woman who has no natural bum, these things are important…
And then the changing room reactions started.
“Oh my God.”
“These are ridiculous.”
“Why is my bum suddenly lifted?”
“I haven’t looked like this in jeans for years.”
At which point we looked at each other and thought: Ah.
We may have a situation here.
The TOXIK3 2662 quickly became so loved at Wardrobe at The Cross that we ended up giving them their own boutique name.
And honestly, the Rowan jeans are now bordering on a cult at this point.
So What Actually Is The TOXIK3 2662 Rowan Jean?
The Rowan is our name for the famous TOXIK3 2662 style.
You may also know them as:
-
the TOXIK patch pocket jeans
-
the large front pocket jeans
-
the TOXIK flared jeans
-
the bum lifting jeans everyone is talking about
-
or possibly “those jeans Gill wore to lunch at the Blue Bicycle and now everybody wants”
All valid.
The magic of the Rowan is difficult to explain until you actually put them on.
They are high waist jeans but not in that terrifying corset-like way where you feel as though your internal organs are being gently rearranged.
They are soft stretch denim but still hold their shape beautifully.
They are flattering jeans for women over 50 whilst somehow still looking contemporary and current.
And then there is the silhouette.

The large front patch pockets are incredibly flattering through the hips and waist.
The slight flare balances the leg perfectly.
The whole thing creates shape in a way that feels subtle rather than try-hard.
Women put them on and immediately stand differently.
Honestly, it is fascinating to watch.
The Great British Rebellion Against Rigid Denim
Now let us discuss something important.
Rigid denim.
Or as I now call it: Punishment trousers.
We (the Royal ‘we’ meaning Me and Sue!) have noticed a huge shift over the last few years.
Women are abandoning uncomfortable jeans in droves.
And frankly, good.
Most grown women are no longer interested in spending eight hours feeling compressed like a panini for the sake of fashion.Particularly once menopause enters the chat.Bodies change. Comfort matters more.
And nobody wants to sit through lunch wondering whether the top button may become an airborne hazard. Side note: this actually did happen to me in Elephant Cafe once - Wirral girls #ifyouknowyouknow - and I did nearly take my long suffering husband’s eye out. I was pregnant at the time. My excuse and nowt to do with the enormous pizza I had just wolfed.
This is exactly why TOXIK3 has become such a word-of-mouth success.
These are:
-
jeans you can drive in
-
jeans you can walk the dog in
-
jeans you can travel in
-
jeans you can wear all day
-
jeans you can bend down in
-
jeans you can sit on the floor with the grandkids in
-
jeans you can actually eat lunch in
-
jeans you can breathe in
It sounds simple but genuinely comfortable shaping jeans that still look chic are surprisingly difficult to find. Holy Grail.
TOXIK3 absolutely nails it.
The stretch in the denim is one of the reasons women become completely devoted to the brand.
You still feel held in. Supported. Smoothed. But not trapped.
It is the difference between “fashion jeans” and jeans you genuinely want to wear repeatedly.
Why Women Over 50 Are Falling Back In Love With Denim
At Wardrobe at The Cross, Hil and Sue speak to women every single day who say some version of:
“I just don’t know what suits me anymore.”
And honestly, there is often a sadness underneath that sentence.
Fashion has spent years talking almost exclusively to younger women whilst many women over 50 have been left wandering through department stores wondering why everything suddenly feels either:
-
too young
-
too cropped
-
too rigid
-
too low rise
-
too trendy
-
or aggressively beige/brown/oversized (delete as appropriate)
TOXIK3 sits in a completely different space.
These are contemporary jeans but designed with actual women in mind.
Women who still want style.
Women who still want shape.
Women who still want to feel attractive.
But who also need comfort, movement and softness.
The Rowan 2662 gives women confidence very quickly because the fit is so forgiving whilst still being flattering.

That combination is gold dust.
The Return Of The Flare Jean and Frankly We Could Not Be Happier About It
Hil and Sue are delighted that women are rediscovering the joy of a flare jean.
Now before anybody panics, we are not talking about full Woodstock fancy dress here.
The TOXIK3 flare is subtle.
Soft.
Elegant.
It simply balances the body beautifully.
After years of skinny jeans dominating everything, many women had forgotten how flattering a gentle flare can actually be. BTW - we are not saying ‘no’ to skinnies, but that is for another blog..
The Rowan creates length through the leg whilst softening the hip and waist area.
Particularly with trainers or ankle boots, the shape just works.
Women try them on expecting to “have a look”.
Then suddenly they are standing sideways at the mirror doing what can only be described as quiet bottom admiration.
Which frankly we fully support.
The Mid Wash Rowan Is The Queen Of The Boutique
If the TOXIK3 collection had a monarch, the original mid wash Rowan would absolutely be wearing the crown.
The colour is perfection.
Not too dark.
Not too pale.
Easy with knitwear.
Beautiful with white trainers.
Brilliant with boots.
Smart enough for lunch.
Relaxed enough for everyday life.
These are jeans that slot into a wardrobe effortlessly.
You do not need to “style an outfit”.
You simply put them on and somehow look more pulled together.
That is part of the reason women become so attached to them.
Then Hil and Sue Made The Situation Worse By Introducing More Colours
Because naturally, once customers discovered a fit they loved, the next sentence was always:
“Do they come in any other colours?”
Reader.
They do.
The moss green Rowan has become one of the surprise stars of the collection.
Soft, rich and incredibly flattering, it works beautifully with creams, navy, black and soft neutral knitwear.
Women who swore they would “never wear coloured jeans” have found themselves wandering out of the boutique clutching moss green denim whilst looking mildly shocked by their own behaviour.
The burgundy has also been hugely popular through autumn and winter.
And the khaki tones are gorgeous for everyday wear.
The dangerous thing about TOXIK3 is this:
once women trust the fit, they suddenly want multiple pairs.
Which honestly is understandable because finding jeans that genuinely make you feel fantastic is weirdly rare.
TOXIK3 Is Not Just About The Rowan
Although the Rowan 2662 remains our reigning queen, Hil and Sue have completely fallen for the wider TOXIK3 collection too.
The boyfriend jeans have been a huge surprise success.
Many women approach boyfriend jeans with understandable caution because there is always the risk of accidentally resembling somebody who has given up halfway through getting dressed.
But TOXIK3 somehow gets the balance exactly right.
Relaxed but still shapely.
Comfortable but still polished.
Modern without looking sloppy.
And then we need to discuss barrel jeans.
Now Hil and Sue were initially suspicious of barrel jeans.
There.
We said it.
Because barrel jeans can occasionally look as though somebody has become trapped inside an avant garde art installation.
But TOXIK3 softens the silhouette beautifully.
Styled simply with knitwear and trainers, they look contemporary, relaxed and surprisingly flattering.
We have also completely embraced some of the more playful TOXIK3 styles with:
-
embroidery
-
asymmetric hems
-
asymmetric waistbands
-
utility inspired details
Those little touches stop the denim feeling boring whilst still remaining wearable for everyday life.
Why TOXIK3 Jeans Can Be So Difficult To Find In The UK
One thing we should mention honestly is that TOXIK3 is still relatively difficult to source consistently in the UK.
These are not mass-market jeans piled high in every department store.
And honestly, that scarcity is partly what has created such loyalty around the brand.
Women discover them.
Tell friends.
Come back for another pair.
And certain styles disappear astonishingly quickly.
Particularly the Rowan 2662.
So if you click through from this blog and find your size unavailable, we genuinely apologise.
Hil and Sue are working incredibly hard to secure fresh deliveries and new colourways because demand has completely exploded.
But if you do see your size available, our honest advice would be not to linger too long.
Women are hunting these jeans down now.
Why Hil and Sue Believe TOXIK3 Has Become Such A Phenomenon
Some brands become successful because of giant advertising budgets.
Others become successful because women quietly tell each other:
“You need to try these.”
TOXIK3 absolutely belongs in the second category.
At Wardrobe at The Cross, customers regularly arrive asking for:
-
“those patch pocket jeans”
-
“the bum lift jeans”
-
“the Parisian jeans”
-
“the ones everybody keeps talking about”
And then inevitably another woman emerges from the changing room looking ten years happier than when she walked in.
That is why Hil and Sue feel so passionately about this brand.
Because stylish, flattering, comfortable jeans for grown women should not be this difficult to find.
And yet somehow they still are.
The Rowan 2662 and the wider TOXIK3 collection have become such an important part of Wardrobe at The Cross because they solve a problem so many women quietly carry around.
They help women feel like themselves again.
Only perhaps with slightly better bottoms.
