Description

Important sizing note first, because it really matters with this one: the Spring Jacket runs significantly oversized. You can afford to go at least two sizes down from your usual. Hil is normally a UK 10/12 and she's wearing the 34 (the smallest size). More on sizing below.

Now the jacket itself — and what a jacket. Y.A.S. is a Danish brand that has a knack for making one quietly extraordinary piece every season, and Spring is this season's. Cut from a substantial wool-blend twill in a soft, toasted-coconut beige, it has that architectural, almost sculptural cut you'd expect to see on a runway and then walk past in a shop window thinking I cannot possibly. You can. The asymmetric wrap front folds across the body like a piece of origami, the V-neck sits beautifully off the collarbone, and the dropped shoulder and slightly belled sleeve give the whole thing a quiet drama. Fully lined, cropped at the hip, finished to a standard that justifies the price.

This is a transitional piece in the truest sense — too warm to call a summer jacket, too elegant to call a winter coat. Throw it over a slip dress for a spring wedding, wear it with wide-leg trousers and trainers for lunch, layer it over jeans and a roll-neck come October. It is a wardrobe piece, not a passing fancy.

Size Guide

This jacket runs VERY oversized. Please size down at least two sizes from your usual.

  • Hil (5'3", UK 10/12, 34EE bust, apple-shaped): Hil is wearing the size 34 (the smallest size) and it is the right call. With dropped shoulders this generous, sizing down is essential for an apple shape — the jacket needs to read as architecture, not volume.
  • Sue (5'0", UK 6): At a UK 6 Sue is already at the smallest available size (34). It will be roomy on her even at 34 — a piece to try on first, but the architectural cut can still work if she leans into it as a statement piece.
  • Approximate UK conversions: YAS 34 = UK 6, 36 = UK 8, 38 = UK 10, 40 = UK 12. Now subtract two sizes from your usual: a UK 12 takes the 36, a UK 14 takes the 38, a UK 16 takes the 40.
  • General note: The wool-blend twill has structure rather than stretch — it holds the sculpted shape beautifully, but it is not forgiving cloth, which is exactly why the sizing matters.
Why We Love It

Every so often a piece arrives in the shop that we cannot stop talking about — this is one. It is the kind of jacket that elevates everything you put underneath it, and the asymmetric wrap front is just a bit more interesting than anyone else is doing this season. Wear it for fifteen years.

Styling Suggestions
  • Hil (YAS 34): Over a fine black roll-neck tucked into high-waisted wide-leg trousers in a deeper toffee, with simple gold hoops and a long pendant for the V. Pointed flats by day, a heeled mule by evening. Resist the urge to over-accessorise — the jacket is the statement.
  • Sue (YAS 34): Over her cropped Keira jeans from Toxik with a fitted white vest underneath and her chunky tan boots. Stacked gold bangles and a layered necklace through the V. She'd lean into the architectural shape rather than fight it.
