Description

The Ohio Gilet from Y London in Olive is a properly useful autumn-into-winter layering piece — a beautifully quilted cotton gilet in a rich Olive base with an elegant printed pattern (yes, printed — not embroidery, though the print reads so beautifully considered it could fool you). Grown-up, wearable, endlessly practical.

Y London is a premium tier Scandi brand — Danish design done properly, known for the kind of considered basics that quietly transform a capsule.

The fabrication is where this gilet properly earns its £30: 100% cotton outer with a polyester lining. Natural fibre against the skin, breathable, takes a wash beautifully, and holds its shape through wear. The quilted construction is a subtle diamond quilt — properly flat and not bulky, adding warmth as a layer without ever pillowing out. It reads as tailoring more than puffer.

The design is elegantly simple: fastened with four brass-coloured popper press studs equally spaced from top to bottom, sleeveless, sitting at the hip. No zips, no fuss — just pop them shut and go.

Colour story: Olive is one of those deep, considered autumn-into-winter shades that plays with chocolate brown, cream, denim, black, camel, and every warm neutral you own. Properly classic winter.

A note on sizing: genuinely one size, cut to be genuinely universal. Hil finds it fits up to a UK 14-16 worn OPEN — the poppers might not close comfortably across a fuller 16 bust, but worn open as a layer it works beautifully across sizes. This is a Hil piece — Sue's petite frame would likely find it drowning her.

Size Guide
  • Available in: One size
  • Fit: genuinely one size — cut generously. Fits comfortably up to a UK 14-16 worn OPEN. The poppers may not close comfortably across a fuller 16 bust; worn as an open layer it works beautifully across sizes.
  • Hil's take: she absolutely loves it — this is very much her piece
  • Sue's note: likely to drown Sue's petite frame — not a natural Sue fit
Why We Love It
  • 100% cotton outer — proper natural fibre against the skin, breathable, easy to live with
  • The subtle diamond quilting — flat and elegant, adds warmth without bulk. Reads tailoring, not puffer.
  • Brass-coloured poppers — a proper considered detail against the rich olive
  • Olive is the shade — deep autumnal green that plays with every warm neutral in your capsule
  • £30 for 100% cotton outer, printed and quilted — proper considered value
  • A brilliant layering piece — under a coat for extra warmth, over a knit for autumn, over a shirt for late summer transition

Styling Suggestions
  • Hil's way (classic winter): with her Toxik Alder Jeans in Chocolate (a reminder: Alders share the exact fit as Rowans, so if you love your Rowans you'll also love your Alders), a fine roll neck underneath in cream or black, ankle boots, gold hoops and her messy high bun. The olive against warm chocolate denim is a proper considered winter palette.
  • As an open layer: worn open over a fine cream cami or a fitted knit with high-waisted denim — the print does the work.
  • Under a coat: popped shut for extra warmth as an under-layer beneath a wool coat on the coldest days.
  • For weekend: with a plain long-sleeved cotton tee, straight-leg jeans and boots — an easy considered casual layer.
  • With a longer knit: over a longer-sleeved fine knit that peeks out at the arms — proper considered European layering.
  • Family cross-reference: the same shape is available in our Ohio Gilet in Claret if the deep red palette is more your season.
