Ohio Gilet, Claret

The Ohio Gilet from Y London in Claret is a properly beautiful autumn-into-winter layering piece — the same beautifully quilted cotton gilet shape as our Olive version, but this time in a rich Claret (a deep, wine-berry red) with an elegant printed pattern (yes, printed — not embroidery, though the print reads so beautifully considered it could fool you). Grown-up, wearable, and quietly ready to be dressed up.

Y London is a premium tier Scandi brand — Danish design done properly, known for the kind of considered basics that quietly transform a capsule.

The fabrication is where this gilet properly earns its £30: 100% cotton outer with a polyester lining. Natural fibre against the skin, breathable, takes a wash beautifully, and holds its shape through wear. The quilted construction is a subtle diamond quilt — properly flat and not bulky, adding warmth as a layer without ever pillowing out. It reads as tailoring more than puffer.

The design is elegantly simple: fastened with four brass-coloured popper press studs equally spaced from top to bottom, sleeveless, sitting at the hip. The brass buttons against the deep claret is a proper considered detail — rich on rich.

Colour story: Claret is a deep wine-berry red — one of those richly grown-up autumn shades that plays with black, cream, camel, chocolate brown, deep pinks, and (crucially) leopard print. Where the Olive version is classic-winter-neutral, the Claret is the one Hil would dress UP.

A note on sizing: genuinely one size, cut to be genuinely universal. Hil finds it fits up to a UK 14-16 worn OPEN — the poppers might not close comfortably across a fuller 16 bust, but worn open as a layer it works beautifully across sizes. This is a Hil piece — Sue's petite frame would likely find it drowning her.
