The Melanie Skirt from Y London — the London-based label known for its quietly elevated basics and grown-up everyday pieces — is a sleek satin skirt with chic ruching through the body and a front split at the hem. The kind of piece that pulls double duty: dressed up with a silk cami and a heel for evening, dressed down with a chunky knit and sandals for everyday.

In Sage Green, it's the most relaxed-but-considered of the three colourways — a soft, greyed green that flatters every skin tone, plays beautifully against cream, tan, navy and gold, and reads as quietly grown-up rather than loud. The colour does most of the considered work, the ruching does the shape, the slit does the leg.

Made from 100% viscose, which is the bit you feel the moment you put it on — silky against the skin, drapes properly rather than clinging, falls in just the right way around the ruching with a soft natural stretch. Treated kindly, it'll only get better with wear.

Viscose loves a cool gentle hand wash (or a 30°C delicates cycle if your machine is kind). Does not love the tumble dryer. Turn inside out to keep the satin sheen and protect the sage green from washing-machine wear. Reshape while damp, hang to dry, and iron on a cool setting if needed (the satin finish prefers low heat).

How to Measure Yourself Correctly

Achieve the perfect fit by following these simple measurement steps:

Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape measure horizontal.
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, just above your navel.
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, with your feed together.

Ensure the tape measure is snug, but not tight, and parallel to the floor.

Hil (UK 10/12, 5'3"): takes the Medium. The ruching skims her shape, the slit lengthens the leg, and the viscose drape floats over her tummy rather than clinging.
Sue (UK 6, 5'0"): takes the Small — though it will read as generous on her petite frame, which suits her relaxed boho lean nicely.
General note: the satin viscose has a soft natural stretch and gets softer with wear. Sizes are true — size down for cleaner, up for more relaxed.
